Our Sustainability Journey

OUR COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY

At ibis Adelaide, we prioritize environmental sustainability and the responsible management of our operations. By implementing eco-friendly initiatives and practices, we aim to lead by example and encourage our guests and partners to join us in our journey towards a greener future. We’re going further than ever before in our transformation to fully integrate hospitality as part of the global ecosystem, ensuring that change in all areas of our business is in tune to scientific findings, such as the IPCC relative to climate change, and driving forward our ambition to make a positive contribution to society as a whole, from our hotels’ local economies to our environmental impact, while always putting people and nature at the core of our sustainability strategy

BRAND AMBITION

Our Ambition is to be known and recognized as the #1 Eco Hotel Brand globally. Be the top-of-mind ECO Brand in all key markets by 2030.

SKIP THE CLEAN

Make a small choice that makes a big difference.

By opting out of daily in-room cleaning during your stay, you're helping us reduce water usage, limit chemical consumption, and minimise our environmental footprint. It’s a simple step that contributes to a more sustainable future—while also offering added privacy and fewer interruptions during your stay.

ELIMINATING SINGLE-USE PLASTICS

You will notice no old-fashioned single bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel, no plastic-covered pillows and blankets, and no little plastic tubs of butter or jam on our buffet. All of our Grab & Go meals are also served in bio-degradable containers with bamboo cutlery.

We know it is an adjustment for all, but plastic is not only harmful to the planet but is often harmful to our health whenever we come into contact with it. We will continue on this journey of creating a safer environment for our guests and lessening the effect on our environment.

SUSTAINABLE PROCUREMENT

We are committed to our responsibility of sourcing sustainable and locally sourced products whenever possible. By supporting local businesses and using eco-friendly products, we strive to minimize the carbon footprint while ensuring the food quality for our guests.

ELECTRICITY USE REDUCTION

South Australia is on a journey towards all renewable sources of energy. We at ibis Adelaide, also focus on reducing the use of electricity where possible. So what are we doing?

  • The entire building is fitted with LED lights - most energy-efficient and rapidly developing lighting technology that uses at least 75% less energy than incandescent lighting.
  • Out hotel features energy-efficient practices, including motion sensor-controlled lighting to conserve electricity when guests leave the room.
  • Our Air-conditioning units are set to a range of 21 C to 24 C with either a COOL or HEAT setting - this small change had a significant impact on energy consumption whilst still keeping our rooms at a comfortable temperature.

WATER CONSERVATION

We at ibis Adelaide, are playing our part by conserving water and switching to smart water management techniques.

  • All 311 hotel rooms are fitted with water-efficient shower heads and sink taps.
  • We harvest rainwater for use in certain public areas between Ground Floor and Level 1.
  • We encourage all guests to reuse their towels during their stay.
  • We only change bed linen every 3 nights - this significantly reduces water usage but still keeps the bed feeling fresh and comfy.

MENU CURATED FOR DIVERSITY

Our food philosophy brings together cultural inclusivity and sustainable practice. We thoughtfully design event menus that reflect the diverse backgrounds and dietary needs of our guests—featuring options like congee, curry rice, and seasonal, plant-forward dishes. A menu that's inclusive, considered and consciously crafted to make every guest feel welcome. Our commitment to sustainability means sourcing local ingredients, reducing waste, and ensuring every menu is as responsible as it is flavourful.

CONSERVING ENERGY AND RESOURCES

We have implemented a comprehensive energy management plan, striving to minimize energy consumption throughout our hotel. Our rooms are equipped with energy-efficient lighting, and our HVAC systems are optimized to reduce energy waste while ensuring guest comfort. Moreover, we encourage guests to participate in our towel and linen reuse program to conserve water and energy. In 2021, we further embedded sustainability into our business by integrating Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) criteria into our financing strategy, making sustainability objectives a fundamental pillar of our company governance and performance.

SUSTAINABLE PROCUREMENT

We prioritise sustainable and locally sourced products whenever possible. By supporting local businesses and using eco-friendly products, we aim to reduce the carbon footprint associated with transportation and promote the growth of the local community. For more information on our Procurement Policy please contact the hotel by email.

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION AND AWARENESS

We believe that raising awareness among our guests, employees, and the wider community is essential to promote sustainable practices. We conduct regular staff training sessions to educate our team about sustainability best practices, enabling them to deliver knowledgeable assistance to guests interested in eco-conscious choices during their stay.

BYE BYE PET WATER BOTTLES, HELLO WATER REFILL STATIONS!

We are thrilled to share that we have bid farewell to single-use PET water bottles entirely. Instead, we have installed a water refill station in ibis Kitchen & Bar, offering chilled still water to our guests without the need for disposable plastic bottles. This initiative not only significantly reduces plastic waste but also encourages our guests to embrace sustainable choices during their stay.
